If you’re planning a vacation to Boston, it can be overwhelming to figure out how to spend your time there when there's so much to see. There are some great attractions that are known around the world, like the Freedom Trail and the Public Garden. But not all attractions have to come with a price tag. Sightseeing in Boston can be done for free and it can be just as enjoyable as hitting up some of the more well-known attractions. For those that enjoy some outdoor sightseeing, the Boston Common is a great place to get some fresh air and explore. It’s the oldest public park in the United States and it’s located right in the heart of Boston. On the Common you’ll find the oldest of Boston’s monuments, some of which date back to the 17th century. There is also the Frog Pond, a public pool, and open fields for taking a relaxing stroll through. The Granary Burying Ground is also a great place for sightseeing for free. Located just around the block from Boston Common, the Burying Ground is the final resting place for some of the most notable figures in American History, including three signers of the Declaration of Independence. It’s home to a total of more than 2,345 graves, so it can be easy to get lost in the history of each tombstone. The Charles River Esplanade is a great spot to soak up some of Boston’s history with beautiful views of the Charles River and its surrounding landmarks. The Esplanade is located on Storrow Drive and is a part of the state park. There are walking and biking trails, harborside paths, play areas, and athletic courts that you can enjoy for free.
No trip to Boston would be complete without visiting the harborside area surrounding the USS Constitution Museum. Here you can take a tour of the building for free and learn about the famous warship’s history. This is a great chance for visitors to admire the “Charley” which is the world’s oldest commissioned warship. These are just a few of the great free activities to do in Boston. Sightseeing doesn’t have to be expensive and there are lots of ways to take in the beauty of the city without breaking the bank. Whether it’s taking a tour of a renowned museum or strolling through one of Boston’s many parks, there is plenty of sightseeing to be done for free.
